Lesilau Barak Ltipanoi

Ltipanoi comes from Ndonyo Wasin. He was born in the year 2000 and he is the first person in his family to go to school. Ltipanoi’s family is a traditional nomadic pastoralist family and they live in an extended manyatta with his father’s brothers and their wives and children; they all share responsibility for the herding of the cows and goats which are their sole source of food.
When he was 6 years old he joined the Ndonyo Wasin pre-school to start his education. Initially his father was not so keen on the idea of Ltipanoi going to school as Ltipanoi was an excellent herder. That year there was a severe drought that decimated their herds. With so few animals left to care for Ltipanoi’s father finally agreed that his son could attend school.

Since class 6, Ltipanoi has always been among the top ten students. He is very smart and persistent. He attributes his success at school to his class teacher’s encouragement and to working hard. When he is not studying, he enjoys reading, playing soccer and volleyball. He was on the school’s soccer team as a mid-fielder. He achieved marks of 346 in his final exams, which puts him in the top 8% of the country. He has a place at Good Shepherd Seminary, which is one of the best schools in the country.
