Lenaino Julius

Julius was born in 1993. He comes from a very traditional Samburu family and he lives in a manyatta about 4 kilometers from Lerata village. He has two brothers and two sisters. His family are nomadic pastoralists who move around in search of water and pasture during times of drought.

Julius went to Lerata school when he was 9 years old—he asked his father if he could go. He is the only person in his family to go to school.

The devastating drought of 2008/9 killed most of the family’s cattle and goats. They are left with only 4 cows and there is no way they could ever afford Julius’s school fees. Julius has a simple goal – he wants to have a good job that pays him enough money to be able to help his family in the future.
