Henry’s father died ten years ago when Henry was four years old. His mother has been responsible for bringing up her five children and since her husband died she lived with Henry’s stepmother who also has 4 children. Together the two mothers had 5 goats remaining from the last drought and they are slowly increasing. The milk from the goats is their staple food. Henry’s mother also fetches water in 20 litre jerry cans from the river wells everyday and sells it to the local shops. She makes 20 shillings for 20 litres and can usually sell 3 or 4 a day. Without a scholarship there would be no way that Henry would ever be able to afford to go to school.

Henry joined Sereolipi primary school in 1999 when he was 6 years old. In 2007, he graduated with 289 marks in the national examination and he was the best of the Sereolipi students for that year. Henry is a confident, motivated student who has consistently taken a leadership role in the school.
