Lekalkalo Wilson

He is the fourth of six children and is one of two children in his family who have been able to go to school. His other siblings live the Samburu traditional way of life, tending to animals and moving from place to place to find pasture and water. Wilson lives with his mother, as his father passed away when he was very young. When he was young, his mother wanted Wilson to get an education so that he could eventually take care of himself and his family.

Wilson started school in 2011 at Marti pre-school, where the lessons took place under an acacia thorn tree with the blackboard propped against the tree trunk. The following year he joined Ndonyo Wasin and has been at the top of his class ever since. Wilson’s favorite class is mathematics because he finds it very simple and logical. He hopes to be a math teacher after completing his schooling. In addition to being a great student, Wilson was a member of the wildlife club at school. This club was in charge of planting and watering trees on the school compound. Due to his confidence and great leadership, Wilson’s classmates selected him as class prefect in class eight. He is a responsible, dedicated student who enjoys playing soccer to relax after a long day of studying.
