The Thorn Tree preschool opened in Pareu in 2004 when Veronica was 6 and her parents decided to send her there. She was the first in her family to ever go to school. Initially she didn’t want to go – she liked the independence and responsibility of herding the goats on her own. But she says she still looks forward to looking after the goats during the school holiday.
Schooling: Veronica joined Ndonyo Wasin Primary School in 2008. She is an excellent student who has worked hard to consistently perform at the top of her class. She attributes her high score to hard work and commitment to her studies. Veronica is confident, self-possessed and thoughtful. Nothing fazes her. She is brave and never afraid to speak up for what is fair. She was head girl last year and she has been an outstanding role model and mentor to all the girls in the school. She sat for her final exam in grade 8 in November of last year and scored 312 marks and was offered a place at Ahero Girls that is one of the best girls schools in the country.
