Geoffrey comes from the town of Ndonyo Wasin. He is the 7th of 10 children in his family. He is 16 years old and has just completed Ndonyo Wasin Primary school. He began his academic career 9 years ago at Ndonyo Wasin pre-school, a sort of shelter created by a thorn tree surrounded by branches. Ever since, he has excelled in math and qualified in KCPE scoring 345 marks to secure a secondary school chance at Nanyuki high school based on his KCPE results.
Geoffrey’s parents stay at home with his siblings who have never and will never receive an education, tending to the family’s livestock. When asked why he chose to further his education he spoke of creating a “brighter future” for himself and his family, who are otherwise dependent entirely on the climate and pastoral conditions for their livelihood. He would not be able to go anywhere without financial assistance – his family simply does not have the means.
