Family: John is the last born in a family of 6 children. He has one sister and four brothers. He lives about 5 kilometers from Sereolipi. His family lives a traditional Samburu nomadic pastoralist way of life. During the frequent droughts they travel in search of water and grass for their cows and goats and their livestock is their main source of food.
Schooling: John started at Imani preschool in the village and then when he was 6 years old he went to Sereolipi Primary School. He is the first in his family to ever go to school. John has worked hard all through school and has always been in the top 3 in his class. He is very outgoing, confident and optimistic and is popular at school. He loves to learn new things and he likes to be active, in fact you will find him involved in almost all the school activities. He is president of the Music club and he took his group to the National music championships. He is also the one in charge of the school vegetable garden. He is active in all church activities and he is on the soccer team.
In his final KCPE exams he achieved marks of 321 with an excellent score in Mathematics of 70% that put him in the top 5% of the country. He received a place at the Onjiko School, one of the best boy’s high schools in the country.
