Lengila Daniel

Daniel Lengila was born in 1998 in the Samburu area of Lerata at the foot of Mt. Lolokwe. He is the fourth born in a family of 5, and the first person in his family to go to school. When he was in class three his father died after being ill for a long time. All of his siblings live the Samburu traditional way of life; herding cows and goats and migrating long distances during the droughts in search of water and pasture. Daniel’s mother makes bracelets, she is an expert beader, and she sells them to supplement the milk, mixed with blood that is their staple meal.
At Lerata primary school Daniel was an excellent student. His favorite subjects have always been mathematics and science. He had marks of 295 in his KCPE exams. When he isn’t studying, Daniel enjoys taking part in athletics. Last year he ran the Wamba marathon and came in at position 11 out of 88 participants.
