lenuure Dorcas

She was born in 2004 and is the second born in a family of five children. Dorcas’s father lives a traditional nomadic Samburu lifestyle, moving with the animals from place to place in search of pasture and water. Her mother, who had hopes of becoming a teacher, runs a small market in Ndonyo Wasin on Wednesday’s—market day! Unable to complete their educations, Dorcas’s parents have made sure that all five of their children attend school. In this regard, Dorcas and her siblings are very lucky. It is unusual for an entire family, particularly the three girls in a family, to be enrolled in school.

Dorcas and her family live in Ndonyo Wasin, which is where she began her schooling career. She attended Ndonyo Wasin Pre-School and then joined Ndonyo Wasin Primary School in 2011. Since her mother was not able to complete her schooling due to lack of funds, Dorcas’s mother was determined to put her girls in school so they can become educated and get a well paying job, allowing them to lead an independent life.

Since beginning school, Dorcas has maintained a top position in her class. Her best subject is Mathematics. She finds it’s routine and procedural nature enjoyable. In addition to Math, Dorcas loves playing football. She plays in the midfield and took place in the Jabulani Cup, playing nearby schools. Dorcas’s confidence and calm spirit was one of the reasons she was named Prefect in Class 8.
