Lesampouwa Frank Alfred

Frank was born in 1999 the first born in a family of 5 children. He comes from an area called Pareu which is 30 miles from the tiny village of Ndonyo Wasin which in turn is 30 miles from the main road. In 2004 a preschool opened in his area and his parents decided to send him there. The school took place under the largest, shadiest thorn tree available with a blackboard propped against the tree trunk; a warrior with a few years of schooling was the teacher. Frank loved school and when he was 6 years old he asked his parents if he could go to the primary school in Ndonyo Wasin. Frank is the first person in his family to ever go to school.
Frank’s parents are traditional nomadic pastoralists. They move in search of water and grass for their cows and goats and the milk blood and meat of their animals is their sole source of food.
At school Frank has been a very hard working student. In his last 3 years at school he has always been the first to morning preps and the last to go to bed in the evenings. He has been top of his class for the past 2 years and In his KCPE exams he was the top student with a grade of 374. He was second in Samburu East. He is an outstanding reader and says he has read all 2,000 of the books in the library – even the syllabus! Harry Potter is his favorite book. He also enjoys writing short stories and poems.
